VAMIDAST Trust Center

Security, compliance and sovereignty — made transparent.

VAMIDAST is VamiSec GmbH's AI-assisted DAST: it tests running web applications and APIs from the outside, the way an attacker sees them — usable standalone or fully integrated into VamiAppSec. This Trust Center shows how we protect data, where we host, and how we develop securely.

02 — Hosting & Digital Sovereignty

Sovereign hosting in Germany — under European law.

VAMIDAST runs on Deutsche Telekom's T Cloud Public (formerly Open Telekom Cloud) — a sovereign European cloud, exclusively in German data centres. Platform data and logs are subject to European law; the contracting party is based in Germany, German law applies and the place of jurisdiction is Germany. Alternatively, VAMIDAST runs on-premises on your own Kubernetes cluster, including air-gapped. VAMIDAST is LLM-agnostic; where the AI steps are processed depends on the model you choose: locally in Germany or on your own infrastructure, at the provider in the USA with Anthropic Claude or OpenAI, or in the environment you choose with your own LLM (BYOLLM).

German data centres onlyTwin-core region Biere/Magdeburg (Saxony-Anhalt) — hosting exclusively in Germany, within the EU legal framework.
Tenant separationLogical separation at application level: queries are bound to your organisation; requests for objects of other organisations are answered with 404 instead of 403.
Encrypted data and secretsData at rest is encrypted, and data in transit is protected by TLS. Stored secrets — such as optional test profiles with credentials or the key for your own LLM — are additionally envelope-encrypted (AES-256-GCM, a separate data key per secret). The master key is never kept in the database; no API route returns secrets.
LLM-agnostic — AI inference of your choiceFor the AI steps you choose between the local Qwen3.8 in VamiSec's data centre in Sankt Augustin (on your own GPUs when on-premises), Anthropic Claude, OpenAI and your own LLM (BYOLLM). No AI training on customer data.

03 — Security Controls

How we protect — by domain.

Concrete controls instead of marketing. These measures are part of our security concept and are aligned with VamiSec's ISMS.

Data security

  • Test credentials for the target application: never stored in plain text, never logged, never sent to a prompt
  • Encryption of data at rest and in transit (TLS)
  • In SaaS operation, platform data is stored exclusively in Germany (with Anthropic or OpenAI, AI snippets go to the USA); defined deletion and retention periods, governed by the product-specific DPA
  • Data minimisation: API imports take only paths and parameter names, no request values
  • No training on customer data: we train no models with it and connect external models only under terms that exclude training use

Application security

  • Secure SDLC from requirements to operations (details below)
  • Documented threat model covering architecture, data flows and trust boundaries
  • Rate limits per organisation; long-lived credentials are never accepted in URLs

Access & identity

  • Sign-in with multi-factor authentication (MFA); SSO via your own Microsoft Entra ID directory (OIDC with PKCE) — MFA is then handled by Entra
  • Sessions with a fixed lifetime that activity does not extend; live streams use short-lived tickets
  • Three roles with adjustable capabilities — nobody can grant rights they do not hold themselves

Infrastructure

  • Sovereign hosting on T Cloud Public (DE)
  • Logical tenant separation: queries are bound to the organisation
  • Secrets envelope-encrypted (AES-256-GCM); without a master key, the platform refuses to store them

Logging & traceability

  • Audit log covering, among other things, approvals of aggressive scans, permission grants and use of stored credentials
  • AI calls logged per scan (count, duration, outcome) — never the prompts
  • Coverage telemetry per scan: the report shows checks that did not run

Incident management

  • Defined incident response process
  • Notification of affected customers — details are governed by the DPA
  • Responsible disclosure via security@vamisec.com · security.txt

AI governance

  • A deterministic engine drives every scan — the model advises and never decides what is tested
  • AI at exactly three points in the scan flow: classification, fallback payloads, grey-zone triage — every output schema-validated
  • Only response snippets (up to 2,000 characters by default) reach a prompt, never full bodies

Organisation & governance

  • ISO/IEC 27001-certified ISMS (DAkkS-accredited body)
  • Security awareness training for all employees
  • Supplier and risk management processes

Business continuity

  • Scans also run without an LLM — the deterministic detectors keep working
  • If an AI provider fails, a circuit breaker kicks in — only the AI functions are affected
  • Business continuity evidence of the hosting platform: ISO 22301 (Deutsche Telekom)
04 — Secure Software Development Lifecycle

We develop as securely as we test.

At VAMIDAST, security is not a downstream step but anchored in every phase of development — state of the art, from requirements through to operations.

01

Security Requirements Engineering

Security and data-protection requirements are defined before the first line of code.

02

Threat Modeling

STRIDE-based threat modelling across the architecture, data flows and trust boundaries.

03

Code Review

Changes are reviewed before they are merged — with a focus on security and data protection.

04

Secure by Default

Test passes with a wider reach — such as out-of-band callbacks, browser passes and several API passes — are off by default.

05

Secure Deployment

Without authentication enabled, the platform refuses to start in a production environment; without a master key, it refuses to store secrets rather than keep them in plain text.

06

Responsible Disclosure

We receive vulnerability reports confidentially at security@vamisec.com — also machine-readable via security.txt (RFC 9116).

05 — Sub-processors

Disclosed — who processes which data.

We deliberately rely on a lean number of carefully selected sub-processors and disclose the purpose and processing region of each. We inform customers of changes in advance.

Telekom Deutschland processes data exclusively in Germany. Anthropic (Claude) and OpenAI are only sub-processors if you choose their model for the AI steps via VamiSec: processing then takes place in the USA (direct API) on the basis of Standard Contractual Clauses (SCC), with no training use under the providers' contractual terms. If you use your own LLM or your own API key (BYOLLM), the contractual relationship exists directly between you and the provider.

Claude (API)
LLM inference for the AI steps — only if you choose Anthropic as public LLM via VamiSec USA
OpenAI

Not in the table: the local Qwen3.8 in VamiSec's data centre in Sankt Augustin is not a sub-processor — processing is carried out by VamiSec itself. A customer-provided LLM (BYOLLM) is not a sub-processor of VamiSec. In on-premises operation, the hosting sub-processor does not apply.

Complete, always up-to-date list of sub-processors, including a contact for change notifications: privacy@vamisec.com.

07 — Environmental management & sustainability

Responsibility beyond information security.

VamiSec GmbH, the operator of VAMIDAST, runs a documented environmental management system (EMS) per ISO 14001:2026. It is integrated with our ISO/IEC 27001-certified ISMS into one management system, and our sustainability performance is additionally assessed externally by EcoVadis.

Environmental management system per ISO 14001:2026Environmental policy, registers of environmental aspects and legal obligations, measurable environmental objectives with KPIs and clearly assigned EMS responsibility.
Integrated with the ISMSThe EMS uses the processes of our ISO/IEC 27001-certified ISMS — from change and corrective-action management to a joint management review.
Certification in preparationCertification to ISO 14001 by a DAkkS-accredited body is in preparation; the audit is planned for 2027.

In the EcoVadis sustainability rating, VamiSec GmbH was awarded the Committed badge in October 2026 — recognising continuous improvement in sustainability.

08 — FAQ

Common questions from due diligence.

Where is our data stored?
In SaaS operation, we store the platform data of VAMIDAST exclusively in data centres in Germany; data at rest is encrypted, and data in transit is protected by TLS. The contracting party is based in Germany, German law applies and the place of jurisdiction is Germany. Where a function involves external service providers — such as Anthropic or OpenAI for the AI steps — we disclose the provider, purpose and processing region in the sub-processor table. In on-premises operation, VAMIDAST runs on your own Kubernetes cluster.
Is VAMIDAST ISO 27001 certified?
VAMIDAST is operated by VamiSec GmbH, whose ISMS is certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2022 by the DAkkS-accredited Proks Certification GmbH (certificate DE-IS-20250191, valid until 18 September 2028). According to the certificate, the scope is the “provision of consulting services in the field of information security, associated digital products and supporting information-processing facilities …” (our translation of the German certificate). VAMIDAST is not named individually; there is no separate product certificate.
How do users authenticate?
Sign-in to VAMIDAST uses multi-factor authentication (MFA). For single sign-on, VAMIDAST supports your own Microsoft Entra ID directory (OIDC authorization code flow with PKCE). A directory is only admitted once a platform administrator has onboarded it and your Global Administrator has consented; MFA and identity verification are then handled by Entra. VAMIDAST requests only the sign-in permissions openid, profile and email — no Microsoft Graph permissions — and stores no Microsoft tokens. Permissions are granted solely within VAMIDAST: role or group claims in tokens grant no rights. With SSO, password sign-in is disabled by default; break-glass access exists only for platform administrators, with its own MFA and an audit entry on every use. VAMIDAST also supports local accounts with e-mail and password. You can revoke access in Entra at any time.
Which AI models does VAMIDAST use, and what do they see of our data?
A deterministic engine drives every scan; the model only advises and never decides what is tested or what runs next. Within the scan flow, VAMIDAST uses AI at exactly three points: classifying the vulnerability class as a last resort, fallback payloads (detection strings only) when no tool fits or one fails, and triage of the grey zone. Every model output is schema-validated before use. The model receives response snippets limited to 2,000 characters by default, parameter names, payloads and finding evidence — never full bodies and never the test credentials for the target application. Response snippets and finding evidence may, however, contain personal data or secrets of the target application. VAMIDAST is LLM-agnostic. For the AI steps you choose the local Qwen3.8 in VamiSec's data centre in Sankt Augustin (on your own GPUs when on-premises), Anthropic Claude, OpenAI or your own LLM (BYOLLM). With Qwen3.8 the target data stays in Germany or on your own infrastructure; with Anthropic Claude or OpenAI the snippets are processed by the provider in the USA; with your own LLM the contractual relationship exists directly between you and the provider. Credentials for your own LLM are never stored in plain text, never logged and never returned. Optionally — triggered by the user after the scan and able to be disabled by the operator — the model can also draft accompanying remediation text. It cannot create findings or change ratings; cookies, bearer tokens and JWTs, key material and URL query values are removed beforehand, and AI-generated text is labelled in the PDF report. Without an LLM the scan keeps running; only fallback payloads and triage assistance are dropped.
How will we be informed in the event of a security incident?
We follow a defined incident response process as part of our ISO/IEC 27001-certified ISMS and notify affected customers; the details are governed by the DPA. Please report security vulnerabilities confidentially to security@vamisec.com — machine-readable per RFC 9116 at /.well-known/security.txt.
Is our data used to train AI models?
No. We do not use customer data as training data: we do not train or fine-tune any AI models with it, and we only connect external AI models under contractual terms that exclude training use. Whether and which external AI providers VAMIDAST uses is disclosed in the sub-processor table. If you use your own LLM (BYOLLM), the terms of your contract with that provider apply to that model.
How do we obtain access to confidential documents?
Public documents are available directly. For the Statement of Applicability, the security whitepaper or completed questionnaires, a short request to security@vamisec.com is sufficient; evidence subject to an NDA is released after signing.
Can VAMIDAST disrupt our production systems?
VAMIDAST is designed for safe scanning. A safety lock classifies every active request — baselines included — as read-only or state-changing and blocks it when in doubt (fail closed). There are three modes: Passive (crawling and reading only), Safe (default; state-changing endpoints only via precondition violation, no DELETE, PUT or PATCH) and Aggressive — only after explicit confirmation of a non-production environment; an environment value of “prod”, a mistyped value or an empty one falls back to Safe. Production systems are only scanned in Passive or Safe mode and only with authorisation. The deny list (such as logout, setup, DB reset) applies in every mode, destructive parameters such as password, role or deletion fields are never fuzzed directly, and rate limiting, timeouts and a request budget per endpoint are configurable. Approval of full testing for a scan is recorded in the audit log with the name of the requester.
How can VAMIDAST be used?
Within VamiAppSec, in three ways: as a fixed stage of your CI/CD pipeline (GitLab, GitHub, Azure DevOps) — every build rolled out to staging is scanned, and confirmed findings above a severity threshold can stop the gate; on demand via CLI against any authorised target, with the same modes and safeguards; and continuously or on a schedule against production systems — there only in Passive or Safe mode and only with authorisation. VAMIDAST can be used standalone with its own dashboard, REST API and reports (PDF, SARIF 2.1.0, CSV) or fully integrated into VamiAppSec, where findings land in the same backlog as SAST, SCA, SBOM and secrets.
Is there a DPA for VAMIDAST, and how are deletion and retention handled?
Yes. There is a product-specific data processing agreement (DPA) for VAMIDAST pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR, available on request via privacy@vamisec.com. The deletion and retention periods for your data are defined and governed by the DPA. Data at rest is encrypted, and data in transit is protected by TLS.
